The Hive

Several years ago, a passionate climber named Andrew Coffey—armed with a background in Experiential Education—set out to build something unique in Vancouver: a bouldering community. He envisioned a space where people could climb, learn, and connect through the shared joy of movement. With Climbing, Education, and Community as its foundation, The Hive was born. When the doors of Hive Vancouver opened in 2012, a small team of 12 staff welcomed a trickle of climbers that soon turned into a steady flow. The gym quickly became a lively hub, filled with climbing, laughter, and connection. Today, while The Hive has grown in numbers, it has kept its welcoming spirit and remains grounded in those original values—supporting youth programs, hosting events, fostering inclusive spaces, and staying connected to the wider climbing community both inside and outside the gyms.
